A Nebraska county supervisor and his wife have agreed to pay $20,000 as part of a deal to dismiss their bankruptcy fraud charge.
U.S. Attorney Deborah Gilg announced Monday that she dismissed the charge after experts disputed whether the couple was required to disclose certain contractual arrangements in their bankruptcy filings.
Richard and Janna Pierce filed for bankruptcy in 2003 and were accused of failing to disclose about $160,000 of Janna Pierce's income to creditors.
The money was from commissions on grants that Janna Pierce wrote in 2004 for Buffalo County and other counties. She didn't submit a bill to the county until 2010, which the board voted to pay. Richard Pierce is chairman of the board.
