An Omaha area man who kept up to 30 venomous snakes in his home has been placed on probation, fined $600 and ordered not to have any snakes for a year.
A Douglas County judge sentenced John Foss Jr. on Wednesday after he pleaded no contest to six animal-cruelty charges.
Authorities seized the snakes in June from Foss' home in Elkhorn. A tip led officials to the house where they found cobras, black mambas, vipers and rattlesnakes in aquariums in a bedroom.
Foss describes himself as a hobbyist who has handled snakes for more than 20 years. The snakes are now at Omaha' Henry Doorly Zoo.
It's illegal to keep venomous snakes within the Omaha city limits.
