Nebraska Schools Cancel Events to Prepare for Storm

Schools and other Nebraska groups are canceling or rescheduling a variety of events as a slow-moving winter storm crosses the state.

The storm has already dropped more than a foot of snow on parts of central Nebraska. The storm is expected to deposit 3 to 12 inches of snow across most of the state by Saturday night.

The National Weather Service says the heaviest snow is expected in southwestern and central Nebraska, especially south of Interstate 80.

On the eastern end of the state, the Omaha and Millard school districts cancelled all weekend activities.

Out west, the Gering district postponed wrestling and basketball games. And McCook and Ogallala moved up their boys' basketball game to Thursday to avoid the storm.
