A 24-year-old eastern Nebraska man has been accused of forging the signature on a check taken from his father.
A news release from the office of Saunders County Attorney Scott Tingelhoff says Zachary Schmidt, of Ashland, is charged with felony forgery and faces up to five years in prison if convicted.
The release says Schmidt opened an account at a bank in Ashland. Investigators say the check belonged to Schmidt's father and that Zachary Schmidt forged the signature.
A Saunders County jailer said Tuesday that Schmidt remained in custody, pending $8,000 bail.
Online court records don't list the name of his attorney.
