A 19-year-old Lincoln man convicted of being drunk when his motorboat collided with a sailboat on a southeast Nebraska lake has been given seven months in jail.

Online court records say Kyle Garrett had pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of boating under the influence and being a minor in possession of alcohol.

Records say Garrett was sentenced last week but doesn't have to report to the Lancaster County Jail until Wednesday, the day after Christmas.

Authorities say Garrett was piloting a motorboat in May when it hit the sailboat on Branched Oak Lake northwest of Lincoln. He and seven others were injured. They swam to shore or were pulled to safety by other people.
