Officials say many Kearney-area consumers already have replacement credit and debit cards for the ones they stopped using after the card numbers were stolen by hackers.

Kearney police say as many as 500 debit and credit cards were compromised when hackers tapped into a Kearney business's computer network.

Kearney Police Department investigator Dan Warrington says that he couldn't name the business because he isn't sure which local business or businesses were involved.

Danna Burchess, of Five Points Bank in Kearney, says cardholders are not responsible for the fraudulent charges.

Burchess says the crooks are believed to have created counterfeit cards and used them nationally and internationally.
