New Kitchen in McCook School, Will Mean Reduced Travel

A southwest Nebraska elementary school will no longer have to haul student lunches across town once a new school kitchen is complete.

The McCook Gazette reports that the project at McCook Central Elementary should be complete by the beginning of the new school year.

The school is now receiving its lunches from other schools because there isn't enough room to prepare food on-site.

Construction crews plan to knock down a wall between an office area, a classroom, and a small space where food is now distributed. The new kitchen will offer convention ovens, dishwashers, freezers and storage space.

McCook Schools Business Manager Rick Haney says construction on the new space will begin this summer.
