Several new principals were named Wednesday for the 2011-12 school year at Lincoln Public Schools.
Kathleen Dering has been named the new principal at Beattie Elementary School. Dering has been the principal at Swinney Elementary School in Lawton, Oklahoma for four years, and previously served as an assistant principal and elementary school teacher in Oklahoma, Kansas and California. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Missouri, and Columbia, and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Kansas at Lawrence. Dering replaces Suzanne Reimers, who was previously announced as the new principal at Maxey Elementary School. Reimers will replace Pat Decker who is retiring.
Ryan Knippelmeyer will be the new principal at Meadow Lane Elementary School. Knippelmeyer has served as Yutan Elementary School Principal in Yutan, Nebraska since 2008. He has also been a teacher in Papillion, Elmwood-Murdock and Iowa, as well as a coach for Papillion-LaVista Public Schools and Tri-Center Community Schools in Iowa. Knippelmeyer earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Peru State College, and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Knippelmeyer replaces Tim Muggy, previously named the new principal at Roper Elementary School. Muggy replaces Dan Navratil, who is also retiring.
Scott Nelson has been named the new principal at Lakeview Elementary School. Nelson has been principal at McPhee Elementary since 2008 when he returned to LPS following four years as an elementary principal with Papillion LaVista Public Schools. He began his career with LPS in 1989 as a teacher and coach at Goodrich Middle School, and also taught at Calvert and Elliott elementary schools in Lincoln, and at Malcolm Public Schools. Nelson earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary and Special Education from Nebraska Wesleyan University, and his Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Doane College. He replaces Sudie Bock who is retiring at the close of this school year.
The new principal for McPhee Elementary School will be Elaine Simpson, who has served as assistant principal at McPhee since 2008. She taught at McPhee from 2001 to 2008, and also has teaching experience at Randolph and Holmes elementary schools in Lincoln. Simpson earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from UNL, and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Doane.
J.J. Wilkins will serve as the new principal at Arnold Elementary School. Wilkins is currently the assistant principal at Belmont Elementary School, and has also taught at Arnold, Saratoga, Prescott and Campbell elementary schools in Lincoln. Wilkins earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary and Special Education from Nebraska Wesleyan University, and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Doane. He replaces Kathy Honeycutt, who recently announced her retirement.
Terry Neddenriep will become the principal at Clinton Elementary School. He was named interim principal earlier this year. Neddenriep has served as principal at Park Middle School and also as an administrator in the Student Services Department for LPS District Offices. He began with LPS in 1989 and over the years served in positions that include industrial technology instructor, middle school associate principal, curriculum specialist and summer school principal. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Peru State College and a Master of Science in Industrial Education from Northwest Missouri State in 1980. Neddenriep earned both his Educational Administration Certification and his Ph.D. in Administration, Curriculum and Instruction from UNL.
