The Omaha Public Power District will meet its goal to generate 10 percent of its power from renewable sources several years early.

OPPD's board recently approved a new agreement to buy 200 megawatts of electricity from a wind farm under construction west of Norfolk.

The Prairie Breeze wind farm expects to be able to produce that much power by January 2014.

Once OPPD starts receiving that wind power, the utility will reach its 10 percent renewable power goal six years early.

The wind farm in Antelope and Boone counties has 118 towers.
