DHHS Pulls Omaha Mental Health Practitioner's License

State regulators have revoked the licenses of a Nebraska mental health practitioner who collected nearly $66,000 in Medicaid payments for work performed by an unlicensed intern.

The Department of Health and Human Services revoked licenses held by Justin Mickles Sr. in November, according to papers filed this week.

The state says Mickles, the owner of Homebase Counseling and Consulting, submitted nearly 1,000 claims for work that was performed by an intern in 2006 and 2007. Medicaid rules forbid providers from billing for interns' work.

The company's listed phone number was disconnected on Tuesday, and a home number could not immediately be found.

Mickles was licensed as a mental health practitioner and a professional counselor.
