Police are investigating after an Omaha man exchanged gunfire with two burglars at his home.

The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. Monday in a central Omaha neighborhood near 85th Street and Underwood Avenue.

The 21-year-old homeowner told police that he and his girlfriend returned home and noticed some of their belongings out of place.

The man told police they were confronted by two men with guns who roughed up the homeowner.

Then the burglars fled with a jar of change. But the homeowner grabbed a shotgun and followed them outside where gunfire was exchanged.

No gunshot injuries were reported, but the homeowner had several cuts on his face.

Police say they questioned the homeowner after the incident and are looking for the suspects.
