Some Omaha-area residents are still without power, a second day after the region was hit by a blizzard.

Omaha Public Power District crews worked overnight to restore power to more than 10,000 customers who remained without electricity following the storm that hit Wednesday into Thursday.

At the height of the storm, some 36,000 OPPD customers in eastern Nebraska were without power.

The hardest-hit area has been in and around Omaha, where about 18,000 customers were without electricity Thursday afternoon. The utility says drifting snow from high winds hampered efforts to restore power in many areas.
