Papillion City Council members have decided not to allow chickens as pets inside the city.

A proposed ordinance would have allowed residents to keep as many as four backyard chickens or pigeons.

The council voted 6-2 against the measure at its meeting on Tuesday night.

Councilman Bob Stubbe says several residents had told him that they objected to the idea of barnyard fowl in the Omaha suburb's backyards.

Councilman Tom Mumgaard voted for the proposal and said he didn't like the idea of telling people what pets they should or shouldn't have.
