An "airsoft" pellet gun was found at a Lincoln elementary school.
And that's got parents at Campbell Elementary pretty worried, for good reason of course.
The pellet gun was found in a student's backpack last week.
No one was ever threatened and the school was not disrupted.
Police were notified as well as parents.
Officials wouldn't get specific about this incident, but said generally a violation of the weapons policy can result in a suspension, or even expulsion depending on the circumstances.
Although in this case it's likely a five day suspension will be handed down.
There were no pellets found in the gun and the pellet gun was never fired.
School officals say Campbell handled it well.
They also urge parents to know what their kids are bringing to school.

What's on LPS twisted mind next? Expelling a "kid" for carrying a "cupcake" on the premises?

dont worry the child did not have a vacation more importantly why was the teacher not suspended for knowing it and not reporting to anyone wasn't until the next day a kid told another teacher. our child was treated as if he brought it.lps states wrong is wrong well? teachers are no exception.

Like the kid at a rural Lincoln school that went to class with his 'farm type' work pliers on his belt... Yup, he got a day off for that. Let me see, a weapon of 'mass construction' maybe???

From LPS Responsibility of Students. T. Knowingly and intentionally possessing, using, or transmitting a firearm on school grounds, in a school-owned or utilized vehicle, or during an educational function or event off school grounds, or at a school- sponsored activity or athletic event. This conduct shall result in an expulsion for one calendar year. “Firearm” means a firearm as defined in 18 U.S.C. 921, as that statute existed on January 1, 1995. That statute includes the following statement: “The term ‘firearm’ means (a) any weapon (including a starter gun) which will or is designed to or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive; (b) the frame or receiver of any such weapon; (c) any firearm muffler or firearm silencer; or (d) any destructive device.” Wrong is wrong.

So they SEARCHED HIS BACKPACK?? Maybe he was going to play with it after school. Get real people. I don't like the idea of searching my kids private belongings. So a friend must of ratted on him, cause he showed it to someone---at least it wasn't 'loaded' and he wasn't threatening or going 'postal'. What a strange world we live in today, that our kids are searched and forbidden to play. Next you'll be attacking the toy maker--and bb gun manufacturers!

Seriously!! This is news? Such drama, over a air-soft....any kid could do more damage with a butter knife. Paranoia runs amuck these days.

Yeah like he was going to pull some sort of mass murder with a pellet gun. A suspension is more than adaquate punishment.

I am glad no one got an eye put out. Please stop the drama!

I think it is good idea for the parents to check school bags before a child ever leaves home and if at grandparents or a sitter do the same.I live in a small town and before my grandkids ever leave the place I am checking before they know I have. Not saying they would do it but with all peer-pressure one never knows and don't be the one that says "mine would never do it" Praying they don't but anyone can be told "I dare you" Lets us work togather to keep kids safe.

so i could bring an unloaded weapon to school and get a 5 day vacation? makes no sense..this should be the same punishment across the board regardless of age. it sounds like this kid is not getting in any trouble at all, I'm sure he/she will learn a lesson...

I can certainly see why people were terrified. Next time it could be a grenade launcher.
