No matter what your preference, the American Red Cross's 25th Annual Classic Chili Cook-off in Grand Island has plenty to offer.
"It's a tradition and people come to expect a good time here during the winter, when there's not a whole lot of other things to do," said Executive Director, Donna Titman.
All of the proceeds from the event go to support services provided by the American Red Cross. Titman says they would have had even more entries, but the winter storm got in the way.
"We actually had 53 chefs lined up to begin with, which would have been our largest. Due to the weather, we lost some chefs from out of town, so we actually have about 49 chefs and they did an amazing job," said Titman.
Brad Bell with the American Red Cross says this is a big day for them and the organization.
"Every year, this is a staple event for us and it's pretty well known in the community and we have a lot of people that come every year," said Bell.
Our very own N-C-N News Team had a table at the event, and even ran out of chili before the day was over. A good time for all who attend, Bell says it's important to remember the cause.
"Disasters can happen to anyone at anytime and the Red Cross needs to be prepared to assist those in a time of disaster," said Bell.
And supporting your local red cross chapter is what Titman says impacts the community.
"Events like this is what makes a difference to the services that are provided right here at home," said Titman.
