A man has been treated for smoke inhalation suffered before fleeing with five other occupants from a house fire in southeast Nebraska.

Officials say the fire was reported a little after 1 a.m. Tuesday in Fairbury. Interim Fairbury Fire Chief Steve Zimmerman says firefighters had the blaze under control within 30 minutes.

Zimmerman says four children who range in age from 6 to 13 and another adult escaped unharmed from the house.

Zimmerman says ashes or radiant heat probably got through a fireplace crack and set floor joists on fire.
