Snow Being Blamed For Fatal Crash

A Nebraska woman has died in a collision during a brief snow shower that fell in central Nebraska area ahead of a massive winter storm moving through the Midwest.

The Nebraska State Patrol says the crash happened just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 80 near Giltner, killing 19-year-old Kristina Leigh Anne Allen, of Callaway.

Investigators say an eastbound sport utility vehicle went out of control, crossed the median and hit the westbound car driven by Allen. The 28-year-old driver of the SUV was not injured.

Investigating troopers say blowing snow and icy conditions were factors in the crash.

The patrol is urging motorists to use extreme caution as a large winter storm expected to bring more than a foot of snow to some areas descends on the state Thursday.
