Nearly two weeks ago the Grand Island City Council voted to hold a Las Vegas-based tech company in default of the economic development contract the city had signed with them. Now that company has left town.

When Structured Solutions didn't come up with the 50 jobs they'd promised by the first of this year, the City of Grand Island asked for their money back - all $600,000 off it.

The company's CEO, Robert Yuan, told the council that with more time he could make the auto-loan finance company operating as Sedona Lender Services work, but the council voted not to modify the contract.

Now the doors are locked at the West Highway 30 location, and officials with the Grand Island Economic Development Corporation say Structured Solutions is gone.

Grand Island Mayor Jay Vavricek says he's disappointed, but not surprised they left.

"I felt for a long time that they could be here one day and gone the next," said Vavricek. "I know that's just the reality of this type of business, that's no disrespect, but really they could operate probably anywhere in the country so without financial assurances, without financial means to stay in business, sure, the outcome could result as it has with they're no longer here."

Vavricek says the city is taking steps to enforce the contract and get the $600,000 reimbursed. Six people had been employed at the Grand Island location.

10/11 and Nebraska Central News' attempts to contact Structured Solutions and Robert Yuan for comment were unsuccessful.

Honestly, Vavricek and Council, what did you expect? He was in litigation with other people and in bankruptcy court in another state, and yet, you still spent citizen's money on him! As far as I am concerned, none of you know what you are doing, and I will vote against you in the next election.

A Las Vegas smoothie asks me for half a million bucks, and promises the moon. Yeah, why not?
