The Midwest Renewable Energy ethanol plant near Sutherland is halting production for several weeks, citing a surplus of ethanol with falling demand.
About 20 employees will be out of work until production resumes.
General Manager Troy Gavin tells North Platte television station that the decision to shut down was based on a lack of profit. He says many plants across the country are also temporarily shutting down.
