University of Nebraska Kearney Police said UNK student Ann Castater was arrested on Feb. 28 for lighting a high-powered firecracker while police investigated an emergency alert.
She is charged in Buffalo County Court with possession of a destructive device, a Class 4 felony; disturbing the peace, a Class 3 misdemeanor, and minor in possession, a Class 3 misdemeanor.
Authorities found destructive devices in her dorm room.
This case stems back to an incident February 17th when officers from UNK Public Safety and the Kearney Police Department responded to an alert at an emergency phone on campus.
The male caller reported he was on campus with a firearm and intended to harm himself.
While that person was never found authorities received a report of what sounded like gun shots coming from a room in Nester Hall North.
UNK Police received information a few days later that the female student arrested last week, allegedly lit and threw a firecracker out of her dorm room window to scare her friends.
Castater bonded out on March 4 on a $1500 surety bond and is due in court for a preliminary hearing on March 15.
