Village of Lindsay Seeks New Water Well

The northeast Nebraska village of Lindsay hopes to construct a new water well to lower nitrate levels found in the town's water supply.

The village board recently approved an application for a $350,000 Community Development Block Grant. Of that, $332,500 would be used for water and wastewater improvements and $17,000 would be used for the general administration of the grant.

High nitrate levels in the village's water system prompted the need for the project.

Project engineer Roger Protzman says the plan is to drill a new well and construct a water transmission main from the new well site to the community. He says the water from the new well may be mixed with water from existing wells to dilute the town's nitrate concentration.
