Colorado woman assaulted in Nebraska dies

Authorities say a Colorado woman who was beaten in Nebraska by her boyfriend who then committed suicide has died of her injuries.

Michelle Stella, of Castle Rock, had emergency surgery for a brain aneurism on Oct. 7 in Colorado. She died on Monday. An autopsy shows she died as a result of the injuries from the assault.

Police say Stella was injured Sept. 17 when she was assaulted by Jason Melledy, of Peyton, Colo., near Gothenburg. Stella, her 8-year-old son, and Melledy traveled to Gothenburg for a wedding.

Police say Melledy stopped the car, pulled Stella out and beat her in the face and head. Her son flagged down a police officer. Melledy drove off, crashed the car, walked to a nearby house then killed himself.
