Spending more time at the grocery store can help you achieve your weight loss and heart health goals. That's according to Madonna Proactive Dietician Katie Taylor.
She took the American Heart Association's group of Go Red Challengers on a grocery store tour.
Here are a few key points from the tour:
-Take the time to read labels, stay away from items with high sodium and more than 10 grams of sugar per serving.
-Bring your shopping list and stick to it.
-Don't shop when you're hungry.
-Make sure the grocery store is the last stop before heading home so that your food doesn't spoil.
-Shop alone
"If you shop with a significant other or children, they are most likely going to grab at what they like, which are more of the non healthy items. Especially with kids, they put sweet fun stuff at eye level so they will be pulling at them to make those unhealthy choices," Katie Taylor said.
Taylor notes planning meals helps you control what you buy which helps to keep unhealthy foods out of the home.
