Welcome to my first American Heart Association Go Red Challenge blog post! I'm excited to be chronicling my 12 week BetterU journey. It's going to be tough - but I'm looking forward to getting to know the four other amazing women in the challenge and supporting each other as we make positive lifestyle changes. Remember, you can follow along with the program. It's all online - just go to the American Heart Association's website! I hope you'll join me on this incredible journey.
So I went and got my blood drawn last Thursday, and I have to say I was nervous!! I hate needles and always get a little sick to my stomach at the thought of having one stuck into my arm. But my amazing nurse at the Nebraska Heart Institute had such a light tough, I barely felt anything! The apprehension was definitely worse than the actual event.
I've never had my blood work done before, so I'm curious to see what the result will be. Over the last several months, I've been making changes to have a healthier diet and have already lost some weight as a result. But for past decade, going back all the way to freshman year of college, I had a pretty unhealthy diet. Once I graduated and was living alone for the first time, I didn't know much about cooking, so convenience became my main goal, rather than health. Frozen pizzas and pot pies were a staple. It's tough to change habits years in the making, but I know now is the time to make those changes and start towards a healthier future.
I'm going to be blogging regularly throughout the process, so stay tuned for updates. I'll be posting my favorite tips and tricks for a healthy lifestyle - and staying accountable! I'll admit it if I eat a whole pie :)
