We have officially started BetterU 2012! The four challengers and I attended orientation last night at Madonna ProActive and got lots of great info. What a great facility! I had never been before and it definitely blew me away.
The goal of the Go Red for Women BetterU Challenge isn't just to lose weight. It's to improve internal heart health as well. I had my blood drawn last week, and last night I learned the results. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. My cholesterol is a healthy number (sigh of relief) and I am not at risk for diabetes. But that doesn't mean I don't have work to do - the doctor from Nebraska Heart Institute wants be to up my good cholesterol by 5 points, and drop my bad cholesterol by 10 points. He said it's a very reasonable goal for a 12 week program, so besides the 25 pounds I'd like to lose, I'm going to be focusing on my numbers as well.
I'm so excited to get started working with the dieticians and trainers at Madonna. The thing on the top of my list though - the group fitness classes! I checked out the schedule last night and I'm already planning out my attendance. I took dance classes from age 2 until age 18, so the Tap Blast and Ballroom Blast classes are a must. I'm also a big Zumba fan, so I'm ready to get my Latin dance on. I've never taken a water aerobics class before, but there was one which incorporated ballet which I'm thinking about diving into (pun intended).
