Week 1 of BetterU is officially under my belt, and thanks to a Labor Day vacation in Chicago, I haven't lost any weight. In fact, I gained three pounds. Oops. I guess all the pizza and beer added up! I had a feeling that might happen and I was prepared for bad news on the scale. Still, it's time to hit it hard and get back on track.
We had out weekly meeting last night, and it was all about food and how to read nutrition labels on packaging. Like most people, I scan calories and fat, maybe glance over the other stuff, but I never really understood what I was looking at. The biggest tip I learned last night - look at the number of servings in the package! For example, some of those "snack size" bags of chips might actually contain two or three servings. So the calories may read 150, but there could be 300 or 450 in the whole bag. I know I've been fooled by that in the past, and I'm sure I'm not alone.
After our meeting, I went into the gym and did the elliptical for about 45 minutes. I had a tv episode on my phone left over from a bunch I downloaded in preparation for the airport, so I watched one of those. It was really sad, and I bet I looked ridiculous sniffling and trying not to cry while huffing and puffing on the machine. Still, it passed the time really quickly and before I knew it, my workout was over. I did almost four miles!! Pretty awesome, and I felt like I was taking a step in the right direction.
I'm heading back to Madonna ProActive tonight for the Zumba Blast class, so I'm hoping to blast some more calories. I tried a new tilapia recipe last night and it was delicious, so it's leftovers for me for dinner. I want to loose my vacation weight by next Tuesday's meeting.
