A Cleveland hospital says another student wounded in an Ohio high school shooting has died, bringing the death toll to three.
MetroHealth System said Tuesday that Demetrius Hewlin died Tuesday morning. He had been in critical condition.
Hewlin was a student at Chardon High School.
He was among several shot by a gunman in the school cafeteria Monday morning.
Hewlin's family says in a statement he was a happy young man who loved life and his family and friends.
Hugh Shannon, administrator at the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office, reported another fatality Tuesday. The student, Russell King Jr., was declared brain dead.
Shannon says the office is continuing to investigate the manner and cause of death.
The 17-year-old King was injured when a teenager opened fire in the cafeteria at Chardon High School Monday morning.
Freshman Danny Komertz says he was just about to leave for his first-period health class Monday when he heard a loud popping sound and then saw the gunman open fire.
He says one student who authorities say was killed was trying to get under a table to protect himself and shield his face.
Komertz says the shooter was known as an outcast who had apparently been bullied.
The 15-year-old Komertz says that there were at least 100 students in the cafeteria at the time and that most fled immediately as shots were fired.
