Boehner Says No Gloating if Health Law Struck Down

By: Associated Press
Updated: Mon 6:38 AM, Jun 25, 2012

House Speaker John Boehner is telling rank and file Republicans not to gloat if the Supreme Court rules the health care law unconstitutional.

In a memo his office released publicly Thursday, the Ohio Republican says there will be no spiking the ball if the court rules against the law either partially or entirely.

He says that's because he wants the party to focus on the economy as the elections approach.

Boehner and all of the Republicans in Congress voted against the legislation when it passed Congress in 2010.

The GOP is planning to try to repeal any parts of it left standing after the court rules, but isn't expected to seek passage of replacement measures until after the elections this fall or 2013.

A court ruling is expected next week.
