State Sen. Brenda Council says Ernie Chambers is focusing on old news about her false campaign reports as they contend for the legislative seat he held before being forced out by term limits.
Council said Sunday at a news conference that Chambers "dwells on an issue that has been settled in hopes of overshadowing and the voters of District 11 away from a discussion of what has been done and what has not been done" about critical issues facing the district.
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Omaha has been reviewing a complaint that Chambers filed last week. It alleges Council violated federal laws when she used campaign funds to gamble and when she filed false campaign reports.
She's already pleaded guilty to two state misdemeanor counts of abusing public records.
