Gretna Mayor Finishes Last in Voting After Scandal

Gretna's mayor won't have a chance to defend her record in the general election because voters in the Omaha suburb didn't support her in the wake of a spending scandal.

Sally McGuire won about 12 percent of the vote in Tuesday's primary and finished last.

Jim Timmerman will face Kip Edmonds in November to determine Gretna's next mayor.

Earlier this month, McGuire fired Gretna City Administrator Colleen Lawry after she was accused of theft and excessive spending.

Lawry is accused of taking about $800 from the Gretna Senior Citizens Center.

The state auditor also issued a report criticizing Lawry's spending and city's poor financial controls.

The city council has since adopted new financial policies that reflect the auditor's recommendations.
