Lawmakers have scheduled a hearing to examine Nebraska's moratorium on long-term care beds.

The Legislature's Health and Human Services Committee will hear testimony Tuesday about whether the need for beds has increased since 2009, when the moratorium went into effect.

The hearing will include a review of nursing homes, assisted living centers and other long-term care facilities that have closed since 2009. It also will explore whether the closures affected local economies.

Lawmakers called the hearing in response to an interim study by state Sen. Kate Sullivan, of Cedar Rapids.
