Seven-term U.S. Rep. Lee Terry has defeated four challengers to win the Republican nomination in Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District.

Terry faced more primary competition this election than he has since first being elected to the seat in 1998.

Among them was Brett Lindstrom, a financial analyst and former University of Nebraska football player, and University of Nebraska at Omaha mathematics professor Jack Heidel. Glen Freeman, a former Air Force member and aide to former U.S. Sen. Chuck Hagel, also joined the race. All three said they believed Terry hadn't done enough to tackle the country's massive debt and other problems.

A fourth GOP candidate, Paul Anderson, raised no money and did not actively campaign.
