Nebraska first lady Sally Ganem is joining a digital campaign to promote reading among schoolchildren.

Ganem is scheduled to read the book "Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad" Thursday to children at McPhee Elementary School in Lincoln. The event is part of a broader campaign that brings children and adults together to read the same book on the same day.

Ganem's readings are scheduled throughout the school day for children in different grade levels. The event is sponsored by Jumpstart, a national early-education group, and the nonprofit Pearson Foundation that promotes literacy.

The campaign is offering the book online for free for families, libraries and classrooms.
