Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman and first lady Sally Ganem are hosting an open house at the governor's residence to celebrate the holiday season.

The event will run from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday after the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Capitol.

The tree lighting ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m.

The governor's residence is located directly south of the Capitol.

The modified Georgian Colonial home was built in 1957, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

The first lady's cookbook, "Inspired Recipes from Nebraska," will be on sale.

Proceeds go to the Friends of the Governor's Residence, a foundation that pays for updates to the residence and provides educational materials on the home to school-age visitors.
