Nebraska Lawmakers Consider Banning Police Drones

Nebraska lawmakers are looking at a measure that would restrict local law enforcements' ability to use drones for surveillance.

The Judiciary Committee will hear the bill by Columbus Sen. Paul Schumacher on Thursday.

Schumacher say his bill would prevent local and state law enforcement from using drones. He says the industry that makes them may try to sell them as the technology becomes cheaper and more advanced.

Schumacher says he became concerned about local drone use after the Federal Aviation Administration started establishing safety standards for civilian drones.

At least 11 states are considering plans to place restrictions on the unmanned aerial vehicles for fear that law enforcement could use them to spy on Americans.
