A coalition of nonprofit groups says the Legislature shouldn't make any major cuts to the state budget.
Ten non-profits announced on Monday at the Capitol that they are requesting no budget cuts to education, health care, cities and counties. Their plea comes just one day before Gov. Dave Heineman's State of The State address to lawmakers.
The group cited a decade-long decline in state funding as they asked lawmakers to focus on rebuilding Nebraska's communities. Carolyn Rooker, executive director for Voices for Children, says balancing revenue and spending isn't easy for lawmakers, but she hopes they will choose to not reduce the budget or propose any risky policies.
