Senator Deb Fischer filed to become an official candidate for the Republican nomination to the U.S. Senate. She filed the paperwork at the Nebraska Secretary of State’s office in Lincoln.

“I’m running for the U.S. Senate because the leadership of career politicians in Washington is failing our country. Our national debt is over $15 trillion dollars and now President Obama is calling for another increase in the debt ceiling,” Senator Deb Fischer said. “My perspective is different from the establishment leaders who wield power in Washington D.C. I’m a wife, mother, rancher, small-business owner and citizen legislator, not a career politician. I will bring conservative leadership and real-world experience to our nation’s capitol.”

Senator Fischer also highlighted her conservative record in the Nebraska Legislature.

“Many politicians like to talk about being a conservative, but they have few accomplishments to show for all their campaign rhetoric. I’ve focused my time and energy in the Nebraska Unicameral on getting conservative policy passed,” said Fischer. “I authored a priority bill to protect the private property rights of Nebraskans from eminent domain abuse; I’ve helped pass the largest tax relief package in Nebraska history; I’ve made the tough decisions to cut spending and balance the budget seven times; and I’ve co-sponsored several pieces of pro-life legislation that have helped make Nebraska a leader in protecting the unborn.”

Senator Fischer also shared her campaign’s focus on discussing policy with the voters of Nebraska.

“If elected to the U.S. Senate, I will continue my focus on passing legislation that gets our fiscal house in order and promotes conservative values. During this campaign, I have presented two serious policy proposals for the voters to consider: a plan to create jobs by allowing our small businesses to grow and a plan to reform the way that Washington does business,” Fischer said. “I’m looking forward to discussing these proposals at debates and forums across the state and I hope that all of my opponents will participate in these forums so Nebraskans will know how each candidate stands on the issues.”

Senator Fischer is a lifelong Nebraskan who co-owns a family ranching business near Valentine. Over the last seven years, Fischer has served the 43rd district in the Nebraska Legislature. Known as an experienced and effective legislator, she currently serves as Chair of the Transportation and Telecommunications Committee and is a member of the Revenue Committee and the Executive Board.
