The Nebraska women’s basketball team closes its two-game 2009 exhibition season by playing host to the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 2:05 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased in advance on-line at Huskers.com, or by calling the Nebraska Athletic Ticket Office during regular business hours, Monday-Friday. Tickets are also available the day of the game at the Devaney Center.

Nebraska tipped off exhibition play with a 68-54 victory over Pittsburg State on Tuesday night at the Devaney Center. Senior Kelsey Griffin made her return to the court by leading the Huskers with game highs of 19 points and eight rebounds in just 19 minutes of action. Senior forward Cory Montgomery added 17 points, while junior guard Dominique Kelley contributed 14 points and six rebounds.

Although the Huskers posted a 14-point win over the Gorillas, who went 20-9 in NCAA Division II a year ago, Nebraska will be looking for an improved performance against the traditionally powerful Lopers.

UNK is coming a 20-10 campaign, when the Lopers posted a 14-5 mark in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Former Husker Carol Russell enters her eighth season at the helm of the Loper program and has led UNK to three straight NCAA Division II Tournament appearances. It will be the eighth straight season that Nebraska has faced UNK in exhibition play. Last season, the two teams squared off at the Heartland Events Center in Grand Island. The Huskers came away with an 80-69 victory after trailing by 11 points with 15 minutes left.

Yvonne Turner led NU’s comeback with 21 second-half points to finish with 28 points on the night. Cory Montgomery added a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Tay Hester added a double-double of her own with 10 points and 10 boards. Jade Meads led the Lopers with 22 points and 11 boards, while Jonni Mildenberger added 16 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.

The Huskers enter the 2009-10 campaign with high hopes after earning their sixth consecutive postseason tournament bid a year ago. Nebraska features the largest senior class in school history, and the Huskers hope the class will be regarded as the school’s most successful by season’s end. NU’s six-player class is headlined by Griffin, who was named one of 30 national candidates for the 2009-10 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award on Wednesday.
