The Nebraska women’s basketball team hopes to continue one of the best starts in school history by shooting for its eighth straight win when the Huskers take on Miami on Saturday afternoon in Coral Gables, Fla.

Tip-off between the Huskers (7-0) and Hurricanes (7-0) at the BankUnited Center is set for 1 p.m. (Central), with live radio coverage provided by the Husker Sports Network on 105.3 KLNC in Lincoln and 93.3 KTWI in Omaha. Matt Coatney and Jeff Griesch will have the call free world-wide on Huskers.com.

Nebraska is off to its best start since 1996-97, when the Huskers opened an all-time best 9-0 to begin the season. NU opened the 1992-93 campaign 8-0, and this year’s crop of Huskers will be trying to match the second-best start in school history with a win over the unbeaten Hurricanes.

Both the Huskers (82.4 ppg) and Hurricanes (81.3 ppg) feature offensive firepower, including four starters on each team averaging in double figures. Nebraska has showcased a stingier defense early in the season, surrendering just 52 points per contest, while Miami has held its foes to a solid 61.9 points per contest.

The Huskers are coming off a convincing 77-38 win over South Dakota at the Devaney Center in Lincoln on Thursday night. It was Nebraska’s seventh consecutive win by double digits and fifth by 20 or more points to open the 2009-10 campaign. NU owns an average victory margin of 30.4 points per game, while adding an average rebounding margin of 12.1 boards per game.

The Hurricanes have been nearly as dominant, running to average winning margin of 19.7 points per game, while controlling the boards by an average of 12.7 rebounds per game. Miami is coming off its toughest test of the season with a six-point home win over UMass (63-57) last Saturday. The Hurricanes will be well-rested after taking a full week off while playing their fourth consecutive home game on Saturday against Nebraska.

Nebraska will be completing a coast-to-coast run over a seven-day stretch. The Huskers played two games in Moraga, Calif., Nov. 27-28, before returning to Nebraska on Sunday, Nov. 29. NU took on South Dakota on Thursday night at the Devaney Center, before leaving Lincoln at 9 a.m. Friday. The Huskers were scheduled to arrive in Miami on Friday at approximately 7 p.m. (Eastern), before facing the Hurricanes on Saturday at 2 p.m. (Eastern).
