"How many people here feel like your paying too many taxes now?"

We're not in Boston and it's not 1773 but taxes and tea went hand in hand today, as conservatives gathered to protest what they say are runaway taxes, out of control spending and even a violation of liberties listed in the Declaration of Independence.

"This is exactly what our late forefathers did in the late 18th century, when they rebelled against the tyranny of Great Britain at that time," said Lincoln tea party organizer Mary Jo Bousek, to a crowd that packed the Lancaster Event Center.

Organizers estimate 1,000 people gathered at the Lancaster Event Center to protest taxes, with their tea-bags and home-made signs in hand.

Kay Kasl, of Lincoln, said she came out to the tea party, thinking it would the perfect way to talk about her rights as an American.

"Well I think it's a wonderful thing for people to get together and talk about what they believe in and how they think the government should be run because we should have a say in how it's run," said Kasl. "I just don't think its right to have an open ended budget as far as the governments concern for spending public money on private sector."

Speakers rallied the crowd with special tea party songs and speeches about regaining control of the government's spending by replacing politicians who voted for President Obama's stimulus Bill. The crowd erupted in cheers.

Some came out because they felt it's just part of their duty as an American citizen.

"Well I'm a patriot, a veteran and I'm a true American and I really care about this country and I will not stand by idly," said Geoffrey Davis of Lincoln.

Davis wasn't alone in his action. Amid songs and speeches, tea party protesters waited in line to write letters to their elected officials and sign a scroll headed to Washington, displaying a new twist on taxes and tea.

So many people need a history lesson. The Boston Tea Party was held to protest taxation without representation. It was not because their side lost a fair election. With a party that claimed anyone who opposed the war to search for elusive WMD in Iraq unpatriotic, it is surprising they would distort the sacared meaning of this incident. Now, Texas is talking succession. Come on Rush, tell me again...who's unpatriotic?

You protesters looked foolish protesting increased taxes when in reality our taxes are being cut. The truth they left out was that 37% of the stimulas package was tax cuts, NOT for the wealthy but for the people!!

The liberals are taking photos, and the low flying FEMA helicopters are coming to take you away. Think about your teabagging in public.
