Nearly 400 protesters from across Central Nebraska gathered in Grand Island to take part in their own "tea party."

Words--instead of tea--were thrown at this protest against high taxes and government spending.

"Why is this happening? I need answers! This is part of stopping this insanity. We've got to do something," said Grand Island resident, Gladys Maciejewski. "Is anything else working to get the message across?"

The frustration was spelled out in black and white on signs.

"'Let's teach Congress to act its wage'. That's a good one," said Sheri Lukasiewicz of Ayr. "Another one is 'spread my work ethic not my wealth.'"

Some signs were clearly different from the rest, sparing the Obama administration from blame.

"Some people have said, 'go start your own protest.' This is all of us together in the streets where we should be," said Gale Pemberten of Dannebrog.

"There's signs I would stand next to and signs that I don't want to stand next to, but I won't give up my place on the side walk," said Peggy Lang of Dannebrog.

The issues on the signs were different but the message was the same--disgust with the government.

"By being out here and by all the other Americans participating in tea parties across the country that our leaders in Washington will realize that we're dissatisfied with the policies that they're enacting right now, that they'll see us, hear us and hopefully listen to what we have to say," said G.I. tea party organizer Mark McCaffery.

Protests want their message heard no matter what the sign says.

"It is bipartisan disgust is what it is," said Lukasiewicz. "We're speaking out, and enough is enough. Shut it down!"

The hundreds of voices in Grand Island hope they're heard.

I am proud to see members of the community I grew up in and love standing together to say that we have had enough. Thank you to all of you who participated and more important, thank you Dad!
