¼ cup shredded cheddar
¼ cup shredded Gruyere or Swiss
1 lb. lean ground beef (at least 90%)
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 ½ tsp. paprika
¼ tsp. pepper
4 whole grain buns
Preheat grill or skillet to medium-high heat; lightly coat with cooking spray or oil.
Combine cheeses in a small bowl.
Gently mix beef, Worcestershire, paprika and pepper in a large bowl with your hands, without overworking. Shape into 8 thin, 4inch wide patties. Mound 2 Tbsp of cheese mixture on 4 patties, leaving a 1/2 –inch border. Cover each with one of the remaining patties. Crimp and seal the edges closed.
Grill patties for about 4 minutes per side for medium-well. Do NOT press the burgers as they cook or they will split open and the cheese will ooze out. Let the burgers stand for 5 minutes before serving.
