Following a 12-1 record and a Class A state championship in 2011, there’s no reason to believe the Knights can’t do the same this year. There’s a number of players back from that state championship squad, primarily on offense, including quarterback Najee Jackson and running back Devin Washington. Also back for his second season on the sidelines is head coach Ryan Gottula.
After an early season loss to Papillion-LV South, the Knights never looked back, winning their last seven games. Probably the most impressive came in the regular-season finale against Grand Island, where they won 28-27, after being down most of the game.
The schedule proves to be the toughest test for the Knights early on in the season. Lincoln Southeast opens up at home against Millard West on August 24 and then the inter-city rival Lincoln Southwest on September 20.
