From Ryker Fyfe's performance on the football field, to Andrew Reidy's success on the wrestling mat, here are the nominees for the Best Male Athlete in 2011-2012.
Best Male Athlete
Ryker Fyfe, Grand Island
It was a resurgent season for Grand Island football and quarterback Ryker Fyfe was the main reason why. The Nebraska walk-on threw for 20 touchdowns, ran for 15 more and led the Islanders to the Class A state quarterfinals.
Drew Ott, Giltner
Whether it was in football, basketball or track, Drew Ott was dominant. The future Iowa Hawkeye caught 18 touchdown passes, led the Hornets to a state championship in basketball and earned a Class D state title in shot put.
Josh Banderas, Lincoln Southwest
Banderas enjoyed a breakout season on the gridiron. The Senior to be made 127 tackles and added 3 interceptions for the Silver Hawks. Banderas was also a force on the track, where he won a state title in the 100 meter hurdles.
Andrew Reidy, Grand Island
Another year yielded another state championship for Andrew Reidy., becoming a four-time state champion, and doing it, at four different weight classes, and if the individual accolades weren't enough, he also led the Islanders to the team championship for the fourth consecutive season.
