Behind 270 total rushing yards and two touchdowns each from Nash Schindler and Ross Schindler, Elgin Public/Pope John won its first state title, downing Guardian Angels Central Catholic 44-14 in the Class D-1 state football championship Monday at Memorial Stadium.
Elgin/Pope John quarterback Ross Schindler completed six passes for 97 yards and two touchdowns in addition to his two rushing touchdowns in the game.
Elgin Public/Pope John took a 22-0 lead into halftime and scored another touchdown before Guardian Angels scored a single point. With the win, the Wolfpack complete a undefeated season at 13-0.
