Abby Ortmeier led Guardian Angels Central Catholic with 13 points in a 49-43 state championship win over Humphrey Saturday morning at the Devaney Center. The win for the Bluejays is the fifth state championship in school history and the school’s first since 2005. Guardian Angels grabbed 36 rebounds and shot 65 percent from the free throw line to secure the win.
The game was close throughout, but it got tight in the 4th quarter as both teams were battling back and forth trying to take the lead and Guardian Angels Central Catholic secured the lead for good, despite their last field goal coming at the 6:56 mark of the final quarter.
Alex Wallin led Humphrey with 17 points and Alyssa Frauendorfer added 13 points in the loss.
