Grand Island native Max Ayoub is pushing his July 4th holiday to the max. The G.I. senior started his weekend by committing to UNO to play baseball, and finished it by helping his team take home a tournament championship.
"They offered me before they turned D-I," Ayoub said, "and after that it just kind of fell into place."
Ayoub and Grand Island Home Federal captured the Mike Peterson Legion tournament championship on Sunday night against Millard South's summer team, PrimeTime Patriots.
The catcher had an RBI double in the effort, and called a shutout for teammate Kyle Simonds behind the dish.
Ayoub says he's excited about his future, and that he's happy to have his decision made.
"I like Omaha a lot," said Ayoub. "I like the setting of the school, I like the fact that they just made the division change, I like the coaches. We'll see how it goes"
