The last year Grand Island baseball won the state championship was 2008. That year, the team was predominately led by long ball.
Head coach Rick Kissick is changing that philosophy this year.
"This year's team we're asking them to transition away, a little bit, from 2008, where we played a much more american league style were we went for big innings then add on late," Kissick said.
From the 2003 to 2009 seasons, Grand Island won 108 games. In the last two seasons, the Islanders have only won 20 games, something Kissick hopes will go up with the different style of play.
