Grand Island falls in the Class A state soccer championship game to Omaha Creighton Prep, 2-1 Monday. It was the first time two undefeated teams have met to determine the state champion.
Logan Mendez scored a goal to give Grand Island a 1-0 lead at half, but the Junior Jays of Creighton Prep scored two goals in the second half to get the championship win.
"The stuff that we've done together I mean we're always going to remember. We know who we are and what we've done - this team will forever be in my heart and you'll never forget us," Logan Mendez said following the match.
"It's been a year full of momentum. The first one snowballed into the 19-0 season and now 19-1 season. It feels like we're missing something and that's that state championship but we'll get it sooner or later," Lucas Venegas commented.
