The Lincoln Pius X football team enters the 2012 season facing a big challenge. The Thunderbolts move up a class from last year, and are now a part of Class A.
Even with 14 starters back on both sides of the ball, the challenge for the Bolts will no doubt come with the new schedule. New teams, new venues, and opportunities where it might be harder to get a win, but Pius is ready for the challenge that awaits them.
"We realize that it's going to be a challenge this year for us, we're excited about it, new teams, new places," head coach Tim Aylward commented.
"I would say for the most part that a lot of the really good Class B schools, I think could compete really well in Class A, and 20 years ago, we made the jump, so we kind of know what to expect," Aylward said.
With games against 5 of the LPS schools, including back-to-back games against Lincoln Southwest and Lincoln Southeast to end the season, the Thunderbolts are hoping to hold their own.
The season opener is August 24 at Kearney.
